Activities
Performance Opportunities
Students are encouraged to participate in two studio recitals in January and June. We also have a Halloween Piano Party at the end of October, complete with costumes!
Competitions
Various competitions are available for interested students. These include the MMTA (MN Music Teachers Association) solo competition in January and the Owatonna Music Guild solo competition in March.
Non-competitive Activities
Students are encouraged to participate in these events:
- Music Guild Play-a-Thon, in December
- Music Guild Ensemble Festival, in the fall
- Music Guild Pop Concert, in February, alternate years
- MMTA Piano Exams, in April
- Studio Festival, in April
- MMTA Theory Testing, in November, January or April
Ribbon Incentive Program
Within the studio we have a Ribbon Incentive Program. Students earn various ribbons for their participation in activities throughout the year. Ribbons are awarded at the Spring Recital. The requirements for each ribbon are listed on the ribbons page. Click to learn more.
Achievement in Music Certificate
Students may earn the Comprehensive Studio Certificate by completing 6 activities during the year. These activities include: Piano Performance (either Studio Festival or MMTA piano exam), Theory Test (either MMTA or Studio), Sight Reading Test, Ensemble Performance, passing Technique Level, and completing a Creative Project.
Piano Explorer
This magazine contains interesting articles about music. There are 10 issues per year. The subscription cost is included in the annual registration fee.
